Presentations to faculty—on campus or at the annual meetings of professional associations—help meet members' professional development needs by providing information on higher education publishing today and best practices in textbook writing. She adapts the content to the needs of the host organization or company and its academic community, members, employees, or staff. All workshops have formats that combine lecture, discussion, hands-on practice, and one-on-one consultation. Attendees may be asked to bring any published textbook for participants to examine and discuss. Participants receive free workshop resource materials and publications. Workshop fees begin with travel and travel-related expenses and a modest base rate and otherwise are negotiable. In some venues, fees may be reduced or waived if on-site exhibits or sales of books are permitted. Consulting with Mary Ellen Lepionka Mary Ellen Lepionka is available for private consultations with textbook authors on publishing projects. Mary Ellen helps authors craft winning book proposals; construct whole-book outlines and text headings; write learning objectives; develop chapter apparatus and pedagogy; draft manuscript; prepare figures and tables; and manage length, schedule, and permissions. As a book coach Mary Ellen also works with authors of general nonfiction, crossover trade books, academic books, dissertation conversions, and professional books. Consulting services are performed on an hourly or per project basis. Mary Ellen also regularly works with higher education textbook publishers, non-profit associations, and governmental organizations as an independent contractor. Her work includes the development of print and online instructional materials and on-site training in writing, editing, and publishing expository materials.
